Rough Diamonds
The IDH trading headquarters
in Antwerp has 15 staff members in spacious and modern premises.
The IDH indian branches in Surat and Mumbai employ 25 people.
We are
involved since many years in distributing rough diamonds ranging
from cheap material up to the high end of the spectrum . We have
sophisticated pricing procedures and sorting schemes, and business
records with over 900 diamond firms, among which over 300 are active
customers. We have an ongoing commitment from major producers that
steadily supply us with a great variety of goods, covering almost
all quality and sizes.
We have
determined that small manufacturers are our primary layer of customers.
Whilst this category may not be very sophisticated in marketing,
it is very efficient in manufacturing, and has the ability to extract
maximal value from the rough it purchases. Their polished is orderly
channeled by traders through a low cost distribution diamond pipeline.
In order
to achieve a sustainable distribution of rough to small manufacturers
it is essential to have consistent and meticulous assortments. IDH
is adding significant value in its Indian sorting facility in Surat
by handsorting down to the smallest sizes.
Our proprietary
software is designed to monitor our overall activity. It is designed
in particular to track shipments as they go through the various
sorting stages. The most complex processes of mixings and splittings
can be reconciled back to an unlimited level of generations. The
system encapsulates an electronic price book that automatically
assigns prices according to built-in specifications.
This technology
is unmatched in dealing with the intricacy of rough handling. Tax
auditors both from Australia and Canada explored our systems and
were confident as to its reliability to track diamond inventories
for government royalty purposes.
