History
IDH Diamonds is a player sought after in the diamond community.
IDH was founded by Isi and Daniel Horowitz. They have a record of being leading dealers and consultants
in the industry. They have belonged since decades to the main exchanges
in Antwerp and are well-known, appreciated members of the diamond
community.
Isi and Daniel Horowitz began as cleavers at the age of fifteen.
After working on a contracting basis for third parties they started
their own business back in 1965. Later they expanded into manufacturing
and dealing, and started securing their supplies by becoming sightholders
in 1972.
A few years later IDH performed a major processing and valuing operation
on behalf of DTC, the industry’s dominant rough supplier.
This was effectively the very first assignment IDH got in its capacity
of consultants.
In the course of the eighties it became apparent that cutting and
polishing had become uneconomical in Belgium for most ranges. At
the same time Antwerp remained the world center for trading. Major
producers were established, and banks had outstanding relationships
with the trade. IDH decided to devote its skills and resources mainly
to the worldwide distribution of rough diamonds to small manufacturers.
This is since then IDH core business.
In 1984, Argyle Mines of Australia appointed IDH as consultants
in order to set up its marketing arm in Antwerp. After more then
10 years of consultancy this assignment evolved into an ongoing
commercial relationship, and IDH became a Rio Tinto dealer.
In the late eighties IDH trained Angolan personal, and marketed
goods on behalf of the state-owned company Endiama.
Between 1997 and 2001 IDH performed a wide ranging marketing consulting
agreement on behalf of BHP for the production of the Ekati mine
in the Northwest Territories of Canada.
Later IDH performed extensive valuation work on behalf of SDM and
Chitotolo, two producers in Angola.
IDH has its headquarters in Antwerp and branch offices in Mumbai
and Surat, hence supplying the Indian cutting and polishing industry
from within the heart of the world’s largest manufacturing
center.
Whilst our core business remains distributing rough diamonds, we
have close relationships with key players in the industry and perform
highly sensitive consultancy work for the most preeminent.
In May 2007, Daniel Goldberg and David Horowitz became managing directors of IDH Diamonds.
